Les femmes et les filles: Female Perspectives in Cajun and Creole Culture Symposium

Our annual symposium is all about les femmes and their contributions to our musical heritage this year!

10:30-11:45 a.m. Women Who Do the Work: Women Folklorists Panel with Conni Castille (moderator), Marcia Gaudet, Maida Owens and Carolyn Ware
Noon-1 p.m. Lunch from Porch, Wine and Gravy (advance registration required via UL Press)
1:15.-2:15 p.m. Ô Malheureuse: Poetry Reading moderated by Ashlee Wilson Michot
2:30-3:30 p.m. Women Song Collectors: 1900-Present Panel with Ann Savoy (moderator), Marcie Lacouture and Barry Ancelet
3:30-4:30 p.m. Songbirds at the Museum: A Poetry and Painting Crawl with artist Melissa Bonin
4:30 p.m. Women’s Charivari with Sarah Mikayla Brown & Lian Cheramie to Festival Opening & Official Cutting of the Boudin at Girard Park 


Festivals Acadiens et Créoles opening & cutting of the boudin at 5 p.m., followed by Friday Night Fais Do Do until 9 p.m. in Girard Park. 


Saturday, Oct. 12
Tour Des Atakapas race & duathlon starting at 7:30 a.m. and ending with a post-race party in Girard Park. 


Bilingual Yoga on the Lawn at the Hilliard Museum
9-10 a.m.

French Mass at 9 a.m. and final day of Festivals Acadiens et Creoles in Girard Park and "Songbirds" exhibit at A. Hays Town Building. 
Radio Acadie will be broadcasting live from the festival grounds! Interviews as well as live music will hit the airwaves throughout festival weekend. Stop by the tent and visit with the KRVS staff and get info on how you can become a member!
